Working with Certified Sustainable Florists
Flowers.NL is proud to be a part of Fleurop, a cooperative of professional local florists. One of the key membership requirements is that florists meet the standards of the independent Barometer Duurzame Bloemist — a Dutch certification for sustainable floristry.
This means:
- Environmentally conscious sourcing of flowers
- Energy-efficient floristry shops
- Responsible packaging and waste management
Florists are regularly audited by independent bodies like SGS to ensure continued compliance with high sustainability standards.
The MPS Certification: What It Means
Many of the flowers used by our florists are sourced from growers who hold the MPS certification (Milieu Programma Sierteelt). This globally recognized standard supports more sustainable horticulture.
Key elements of the MPS program include:
- Lower environmental impact through reduced water, energy, and pesticide use
- Social responsibility including fair labor conditions
- Full traceability from grower to consumer

Sustainability in Our Own Operations
Sustainability doesn’t stop at the florist’s door. At our main office in Duiven, we’ve taken concrete steps to reduce our environmental footprint:
- 100% green energy, generated by our own solar panels
- Full LED lighting and double glazing throughout the building
- Connected to municipal district heating
- A 100% electric vehicle fleet for business transport
We also promote paperless processes, recycling, and mindful energy and water use across all departments.
Eco-Friendly Deliveries
Flowers.NL supports sustainable delivery practices wherever possible. Our florists plan efficient delivery routes to reduce mileage and emissions. In some city centers, deliveries are made using fully electric vans or bicycles, helping to lower the carbon footprint of each bouquet.
