Cymbidium. Background information about, origin, species, care and bouquets with Cymbidium

An Orchid with a great wow effect and stamina.

A long, slender stem with a floral splendor attached to it that you really say to yourself: that's the Cymbidium. As soft as velvet, some of her strains exude a deliciously sweet scent.

COLORS AND SHAPES OF THE CYMBIDIUM

The Cymbidium can be recognized by the long branch and a torch of flowers with red, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green or bicolour flowers. Each of these flowers has a hollow, arc-shaped lip that resembles a boat. The Greek word for boat is 'Kymbos' and that is where the name Cymbidium comes from.

SYMBOLISM OF THE CYMBIDIUM

In China, the Cymbidium is a gift for friends. The flower symbolizes a valued and respected friendship.

ORIGIN OF THE CYMBIDIUM

When you think of orchids, you often think of tropical or subtropical living conditions, but did you know that the Cymbidium is not a tropical type at all? Originally it is used to survive on the southern slopes of the Himalayas. So even on that rocky and mostly nutrient-poor soil, with cold nights and often reflected bright light, it is able to bloom its mysterious, elegant floral splendor. So a real survivor.

CARE TIPS OF THE CYMBIDIUM

  • Cut the stem diagonally by one centimeter.
  • Place the flower in lukewarm water.
  • Make sure that the stem is always in 10 cm of water.
  • Cut off an inch every five days and change the water.
  • Cymbidium is often in a bottle if it is incorporated into a flower arrangement or bouquet. Check regularly whether there is still enough water in it
